Avoid Punching Problems

Are your punches breaking, chipping or galling?

Check the following:

  • Is your punch secure in the coupling nut?
  • Are the punch and die aligned properly?
  • Is there proper clearance between punch and die?

  • Is the stripper in proper position?

Are your dies Damaged?

Check the following:

    • Are the punch and die aligned properly?
    • Is the die tightened with a set screw?
    • Do you have enough clearance between the punch and die?

Chipped or galling punch?

If your punch tips are chipping or galling here are a few things to look for:

– If the punch is chipping at the tip, it is not aligned properly.
– If your punch stem is keyed, order the proper keyway for your punch to lock the punch into position.
– If you do not have a keyed punch stem, tighten the punch and die and jog the punch down into the die before placing the material to be punched.
